He was born in Victorville, CA on May 19, 1927, son of the late Herb Fanning of Lynchburg, TN and Patsy Eldridge of Victorville, CA. He married Kathleen Templeton of Fayetteville, TN on October 8, 1955.

Dale was an underground utilities project manager for a number of contractor's criss crossing the US with his loved wife, Kathleen, until his retirement in 1992. He served honorably in the United States Navy as a Submariner from 1944-1952.

He was an active member of Taylors First Baptist Church and was faithful to his beloved Jesus as he was ushered into the waiting arms of God on Monday morning.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 58 years, are three children, Ted M. Fanning, CDR, USN, and wife, Helen Elizabeth, of St. Mary's, GA, Pamela Dale DiVittorio and husband, John of Taylors and Patricia Kay Pirkle of Taylors; six grandchildren, Kathleen Fanning Swain and husband, Joe, Matthew Middleton Fanning and wife, Melissa, Mark Middleton Fanning and wife, Emily, Dale Jackson Pirkle and wife, Brittany, Patricia Kathleen Grace Pirkle and Mary Hannah DiVittorio; and four great granddaughters, Abigail Hannah Swain, Hailey Elizabeth Swain, Rebecca Kathleen Swain and Addalyn Ann Fanning.

May our separation from our beloved "Pa" be but a brief passing of the night.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Taylors First Baptist Church with visitation following at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
