Donald Charles Burk

Donald Charles Burk, 87, of Greenville, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 after a period of declining health.

Born in 1925 in Nutley, NJ, to Herbert Grover Burk and Gertrude Marie DesRoches, Donald grew up in Nutley, and after graduating from high school in 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the U.S.S. McKee, a naval destroyer in the Pacific.

Having returned after the war he attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA where he earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. While there he met and married his wife of 62 years, Norma Ullmann Burk, in 1951. After living in Milwaukee, WI, NJ, and NY they eventually moved to Greenville.

Donald was a sales engineer with Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing and district sales manager in Greenville for Eaton Corporation for many years, specializing in industrial controls and drives. In retirement he loved to play golf, be a handyman around the house and out in his garden growing flowers and vegetables.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children; Steve Burk of Hummelstown, PA, his wife, Karen Pennington Burk and their children, Ryan and Kelley; Susan Burk Conway of Greenville and her husband, John Conway; and Melissa Burk Barnhill of Acworth, GA, her husband, Jack Barnhill and their children, Rebecca and Emily; and a sister, Constance Middaugh of W. Falmouth, MA.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. There will be a private graveside service on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Graceland East Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Greenville Place Memory Care for their compassionate care and love.
