Elizabeth Montague Gaffney Tyson, 94, of Emeritus at Greenville, formerly of 250 Glenbrooke Way, Greenville, died October 24, 2012.
Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Monroe Gaffney, Sr. and Mary Montague Wright Gaffney and the widow of Thurman Franklin (Bub) Tyson, Jr.
Mrs. Tyson graduated from Greenville High School, class of 1937, and attended Furman University. She worked at Woodlawn Memorial Park for over 40 years. She was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, the Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class, and was a lifetime member of The Greenville Women's Club.
Surviving are a brother Richard Morgan Gaffney, Sr. and his wife Delia of Greenville, and a sister Mary Vance Gaffney Gibson of Simpsonville; nieces, Mary Houston G. Gaston and her husband Clark, Kathryn M. Gaffney, Delia (Dee) G. Malone and her husband John, all of Greenville; nephews, Dr. Clyde M. Gaffney III and his wife Christel of Greer, William W. Gaffney, Jr. of Greenville, R. Morgan Gaffney, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL and W. Gaffney Gibson and his wife Monica of Greenville; great nieces, Leigh Anne Carter and her husband Roger of Raleigh, NC, Ashley Douglas and her husband Mike of Greenville, Mary Clark Guillory and her husband Garrett of Franklin, TN, Elizabeth Dunton and her husband Jason of Greenwood, Miller Gaffney and Wright Gaffney, both of Greenville; great nephews, Chris Gaffney, Jim Phelps and his wife April of Winston Salem, NC and Elliott Tapp of Manhattan, NY. In addition, Mrs. Tyson is survived by two great great nieces and nine great great nephews. Also surviving are a niece and nephews of her late husband Bub of New Bern, NC and their families.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers Clyde Monroe Gaffney, Jr. and William Wright Gaffney, Sr. and a nephew Raymond Vance Gibson.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff at Emeritus at Greenville and special caregivers Emma Jean Fryer and James Ducker.
The funeral service will be held in the Memorial Chapel at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. with The Reverend Grover Putnam, Parish Minister, officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
