Ellen Kathryn Foody, 53, of Simpsonville died Friday, August 5, 2011. Born February 19, 1958 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of James G. Foody and the late Mary Louise Donovan Foody. She received her degree in accounting from the College of William and Mary, and her law degree from the University of South Carolina. Prior to practicing law, she worked with Arthur Young in Philadelphia, PA before relocating to South Carolina to be closer to her family. She worked with Delta Woodside, serving as the Manager of Internal Audit as well as the Director of Benefits Compensation. Since her graduation from the University of South Carolina School of Law, she practiced with the firm of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak and Stewart. She was a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, The American Bar Association, the SC Women's Lawyers Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
A lifelong supporter of education and the arts, she always found time for and was very involved with numerous civic and charitable organizations, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Pendleton Place, Rosewood House and the Junior League. She was a long-time member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and most recently was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family and her friends. She touched the lives of many with her compassion and generosity, as well as her quick wit and humor.
In addition to her father and his wife, Joan C. Foody, she is survived by her sisters, Mary Pat Emmerth, Margy Foody, Jean Foody Hall , and Eileen Foody Little (William); brothers, Paul J. Foody (Deitra); Vincent G. Foody (Suzanne); and Daniel P. Foody; nephews, Michael P. Emmerth, Johnathon F. Foody, Christopher G. Foody, Luke D. Foody, and Matthew L. Foody; nieces, Sarah A. Emmerth, Morgan E. Foody, Katherine B. Little and Peyton E. Little; stepbrother, Richard T. Brownrigg (Sandra); and stepsisters Cynthia B. Ayers (Bruce) and Martha B. Zielinski; and countless other family and friends who were blessed to have known her.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 7, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, 639 N. Main Street, Greenville. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
