Helen Ruth Craine

Greenville

Helen Ruth Craine, 89, of Greenville, South Carolina, died February 9, 2014.

She was born to the late J.R. and Helen Jordan on October 15, 1924.

She graduated from Spartanburg High School and received her BA in Theatre Arts from Converse College.

She was married to the late Dr. James Pryor Craine, Sr., former senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Anderson, South Carolina, First Baptist Church, Gallatin, Tennessee, and First Baptist Church, Lyman, South Carolina.

She is also preceded in death by her sister, "Patsy" Garner Powell and her husband, Alfred.

A lifelong partner in ministry with Jim, her beloved husband, Helen Ruth served in numerous positions within the church and community. She was well known for incorporating drama within the church as a performer, director, writer, teacher, and youth ministry leader.

She shared a passion for travel with her husband, and, together, they enjoyed many memorable trips in the States, as well as overseas.

She is survived by her three children: James Pryor Craine, Jr., Ruth Craine Bresson and husband, Chris and Melodie Craine Barron and husband, Dan Hoffman.

She adored her 5 grandchildren: Abe, Jordan, Brad, Anna, and Ben.

She is also survived by her six great-grandchildren: Gracey, Pryor, Julian, Lola, McCurry, and Billy.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Caris Healthcare, Helen Ruth's Hospice Agency, 111 Smith Hines Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29607.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
