Mallie Fleming Brock, 90, a resident of The Maples in Honea Path, formerly of Due West, died on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Rainey Upstate Hospice. She was the widow of Carlton Brock.
Born November 5, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Iva Fleming. She was a long time member of Due West Baptist Church. She taught the children's Sunday School class for many years.
Mallie will be remembered for raising 3 small children after a house fire on October 2, 1946. Her husband, Carlton Brock, lost his life as a result of this fire. Mallie devoted her life to teaching and caring for her three children whose ages at the time were 7, 5, and 3. Mallie became a widow at age 25. Mallie loved life so much and was always happy when her family was with her. Mallie spent her last five years (2007) as a resident of The Maples in Honea Path. When she was asked how she liked The Maples, her reply was, "I had a good home in Due West, but when you cannot take care of yourself, this is the best place in the world." She truly loved everyone at The Maples. She was also an avid Gamecock!
