Mary G. Vaughn
The Guest Book is expired.
Mary Agnes George Vaughn, 90, widow of J. W. "Bill" Vaughn, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 1, 2012, with her children by her side.
Born November 24, 1921, in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Dennis Tet and Iola Tumblin George.
Mary worked in sales at Ivey's for 9 years and retired after 31 years' service with JC Penney's. She was a charter member of Augusta Heights Baptist Church and had been an active member of the B.A.L.L. Club for seniors.
Even in retirement, Mary's fun-loving personality kept her young. Whether selling peaches with her husband, watching her grands and great-grands compete, attending family reunions, or cheering on "her" Atlanta Braves, Mary cherished a good laugh and lived her life to the fullest.
She is survived by her loving family: daughters and son-in-law, Shirley Hazelwood of Greenville and Teresa and Ken Kessler of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Lynn and Rick Boggs of Irmo, Michael and Emily Hazelwood of Greer, Kevin and Stephanie Kessler of Orlando, FL, Bryan Kessler of Birmingham, AL, and Jacob Kessler of Richmond, VA; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jamisen Boggs and Nathan and Claire Hazelwood; sister, Ruth Ostrander of S. Glens Falls, NY; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Vera Roache, Edith Garrett, Beatrice Kellett, and Mary Moore; half-sisters, Pauline Sherman, Lillie Welborn, and Dorothy Coker; and son-in-law, Tommy Hazelwood.
Mary will be remembered for her loving spirit and her welcoming heart. Her door was always open to neighbors, friends, and family, and the Vaughn residence was frequently filled with food, fun, and folding chairs whenever an occasion for celebration arose. Whether known as Mother, Mama, Aunt Mary, or "Miss Mary," her name was synonymous with holidays and hospitality.
A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held Thursday, October 4, 2012, at 2:00pm. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family is at the home.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Augusta Heights Baptist Church, 3018 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605.
