Thelma Jean Slay, 82, of Greenville, wife of Malcolm Monroe Slay, was called home on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 after a period of declining health.
Born in Reno, IL, she was a daughter of the late James Luther and Della Ann Phillips Brown.
Thelma was a Parker High School graduate, class of 1949 and was active in Senior Citizens Plus Club. She loved animals and was kind, compassionate, generous and loving. Her hobbies consisted of reading, shopping, listening to music and spending time with her family. She retired from Dr. Robert Brown's office as a receptionist. She was of the Christian faith.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 63 years are, three daughters, Rebecca S. Martin and husband, Melvin, Debra J. Slay, and Catherine S. Heinrich and husband, Donald; three grandchildren, Pamela and Jeffrey Martin, and Susan M. Collins and husband, Jon; one great granddaughter on the way, Gracen Elizabeth Collins; two brothers, Frankie Brown and wife, Jan, and Jimmy Brown and wife, Pat; a sister, Judy Williams and husband, Terry; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with visitation prior from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, West.
