Virginia L. Chamness


Virginia Lee Crawshaw Chamness, 83, widow of Delbert P. Chamness passed from this life Monday, July 2, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Chamness was born in Carbondale, IL, a daughter of the late Teddy and Irene Wright Crawshaw. She received her BA from Southern Illinois University and Masters from Clemson University. Mrs. Chamness was retired from the School District of Pickens County after teaching 30 years at Pickens Junior High School.

Mrs. Chamness was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pickens. She was a member of the Pickens County Cattlemen's Association, Past President of the Pickens Garden Club and was a member of Seniors Unlimited.

She loved to travel, visiting all fifty states and numerous foreign countries. Her sense of adventure was loved and admired by her family. She was an avid NASCAR fan and attending the Daytona 500 with her husband, son and nephew Howard became a family tradition for many years.

She leaves behind a son Delbert Lee Chamness (Emily) of Easley; a daughter Susan Ethridge (Vincent) of Easley; grandchildren Daniel Ethridge (Angela), Delbert Chamness, II, Teddy Ethridge (Jenny), Kimberly Cobb (Alvin), Russ Ethridge; and great grandchildren Olivia Chamness and Chase, Brooke, and Phoebe Ethridge. Also surviving are sisters Louise Doetch of Marion, IL, Doris Dover of Desota, IL, Jeanette McGee (Phillip) of Makanda, IL, Joann Cargine of Bellwood, IL, Violet Covington (Harold) and Anna Mary Rushing (Everett), both of Carbondale, IL; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Betty Hiller and a brother Bobby Crawshaw.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Saturday in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
