Ernest James Vaughn, 82, of the Oneal area, widower of Annie Lou Beacham Vaughn, died April 15, 2012 at The Cottages at Brushy Creek.

A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Otho and Inez Wilkerson Vaughn, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. James co-owned Oneal Grocery for over 30 years. He served Lake Cunningham Fire District as a Commissioner for 40 years. His commitment to his community led to his receiving the State of South Carolina's Highest Honor, The Order of the Palmetto, in 1998 and to having a day designated to Honor Him by Greenville County Council.

Surviving are a son, Jim Vaughn; a sister, Lois Morgan; a granddaughter, Jordan Vaughn; a sister-in-law and husband, Thelma and Wayne Tate; brother-in-law and wife, Tom and Shirley Beacham; and sister-in-laws, Velma Fowler and Lila Sandlin.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Rev. Judy Alford. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 p.m. Thursday at The Wood Mortuary.
