Karen Ellen (Condra) Andrus passed away on April 26, 2012 at 1:00PM with her husband at her bedside and after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born April 18, 1953 in Rockville Center, NY. She graduated from Corinth Central High School in Corinth, NY in 1971. Karen married her husband, Ted Andrus on June 27, 1971 in Greenfield Center, NY. They were long time residents of Lynchburg, Virginia and Staunton, Virginia. They were also short-term residents of Savah, Indiana where they developed many lasting friendships in the Evansville/Mt Vernon area.
Karen was a gifted dog handler showing with her best friends in AKC obedience trials and earning an Obedience Champion (OCH) with her border collie Gus. She was well on her way to a second OCH on Pete, also a border collie. Her most recent challenge was working with Dee, her latest puppy, a border terrier.
Besides her husband of 41 years, Karen is survived by her two children, Sarah Andrus and her husband Dean Amies of Taylors, SC., Jesse Andrus and his wife Martha (Hemmler) Andrus of Knoxville, TN., two grandchildren Nicole Knapil and Alexander Knapil of Taylors, SC. and one sister Marie (Condra) Serio and her husband Lou Serio of Howard Beach, NY, and of course her best friends Gus, Pete and Dee.
Arrangements will be by Palmetto Mortuary and Carolina Green Burial. A memorial service will be held at Palmetto Mortuary, 1313 Miller Rd, Greenville, SC. Burial will be private.
