Madelyn Compton Flynn, 93, widow of John M. Flynn, died of natural causes on Sunday, May 26, 2013 in her home at Haywood Estates, Greenville.
Born August, 14, 1920 in Greer, she was the daughter of the late Dock and Ola Waldrop Compton.
She was a charter member of Edwards Road Baptist Church, a lover of travel and a formidable bridge player.
Surviving are her son Johnny M. Flynn, daughter-in-law Phyllis B. Flynn, grandsons John Marshall Flynn and his wife Kelley of Raleigh, NC; Michael Flynn and his wife Summer of Charleston; Morgan Flynn of Greenville; and three precious great granddaughters.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by sisters Ruth Horton, Mildred Wooten, and Mary McElrath.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Journey Hospice and Haywood Estates for the love and care they gave Madelyn.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 2 - 3:30pm at The Mackey Mortuary. Private entombment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 847 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC 29601.

Johnny and family, I am truly sorry to hear of the death of your mother. She was one of my favorite people from Edwards Road. She and your dad were just absolutely two of the finest Christian people I knew. She will be truly missed my those who knew and loved her. One thing to look forward to is seeing her again. My deepest sympathies to your family.

Maybe 20 years ago I was working on our Compton family genealogy and spoke with Madelyn. She was so kind and helpful. I am proud to be a distant cousin to her. Robert Compton (Dude) was my grandfather. I know Madelyn will be missed. You have my prayers.
