Rev. J. Belvin Greene
Reverend J. Belvin Greene, Sr. of Greenville went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 14, 2014.
Born in Greenville on August 24, 1924, he was a son of the late Ralph and India Greene.
Belvin served as a flight engineer and bombardier on a B-24 with the 449th Bomber Group in the European Theater of WWII. After the war, he worked as a carpenter until opening his own business, B & R Petroleum Systems, Inc., from which he retired in 2006. He also pastored two churches, became an evangelist, and was the President of Ebenezer Holiness Baptist Camp for 45 years. Belvin loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family, his country, his work, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Erma E. Greene; a daughter, Kim Gainey (Vince); two sons, John B. Greene, Jr. "Johnny" (Susan), and Mark Greene (Lisa); five stepchildren; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; one sister, Margie; and one brother, Marion.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Greene; three sisters; and three brothers.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 17, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in the Thomas McAfee Downtown Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Bible Church Missions, 150 Grace Dr., Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
The family would like to express their great appreciation to special friend and neighbor, Ronnie Sparks, for the many acts of kindness to Rev. Greene.
