Vernon L. Cantrell


Vernon Lee Cantrell, 88, formerly of Berry Mill Road, widower of Aldean Stokes Cantrell, died February 19, 2014 at National Health Care.

A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Allie Elbert and Lizzie Arnold Cantrell, he was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII (Company "D" 329TH Infantry), a retired employee of The Greenville News after 25 years of service, and a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Yvonne Simpson (Doug) of Greer; two sons, Michael Lee Cantrell (Maudene) of Greer and Edwin Cantrell (Denise) of Landrum; a brother, Roy Hayden Cantrell of Greer; two sisters, Thalia Ross of Greenville and Myrtle Massengale of Greer; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Mark Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Honorary escort will be the Eveready Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 p.m. Friday at the church.

The family is at the home of his son, Edwin Cantrell, 219 Highway 101, Landrum, SC 29356.
