Mrs. Allie Mack Haywood Pazdan, 83, of Greenville, wife of Joseph John Pazdan, died Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown.
Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Manly Furman and Martha McIntosh Haywood and the sister of Betty Rogers and the late Furman Haywood. Mrs. Pazdan attended Furman University, received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Carolina and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
An inspirational presence, whose smile lit up any room, Mrs. Pazdan served as a former board member for multiple organizations including: United Ministries, St. Francis Development Board, St. Francis Ethics Committee, St. Joseph's Catholic School and the Foster Parent Review Board. In addition, Mrs. Pazdan was one of the formers of the St. Joseph's Catholic School Grandparent's Organization, as well as a co-founder for Loaves and Fishes. She also served as past President of the Chanticleer Women's Club, St. Mary's Women's Club, and Christ Church Episcopal School Parent's Panel.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Dr. Judy P. Lytle and husband Dr. Bob Lytle of Newton Center, MA, Mary Beth P. Cross and husband Douglas of Winston Salem, NC, and Donna P. Friedman and husband Randy of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two sons, Joseph M. Pazdan, II and wife Ginny P. Pazdan of Greenville, and John T. Pazdan and wife Emilie of Greenville; and sister, Betty Rogers of Greenville. Known to her family as Nana, Mrs. Pazdan leaves behind 15 grandchildren, Joseph and Julia Lytle, Chad, Mack and Carl Cross, Virginia, Allie and Martin Pazdan, Mary Bradley, Susannah and Sam Pazdan, and Will, Jack, Grace and Drew Friedman; two step-grandchildren, Brian and Jay Friedman; and a great-grandchild expected in August.
A Vigil will be held Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with visitation following in Gallivan Hall until 8:30 p.m.. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 12 Noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Entombment will be held at a later date in St. Mary's Catholic Church Columbarium.
