Doris "Bitsi" Hendley Claffy

Greenville

Doris "Bitsi" Hendley Claffy passed away March 25, 2014 at McCall Hospice House after extended illnesses.

Educated in Spartanburg schools, she enjoyed a rewarding career in administrative roles of textile manufacturing, State Civil Defense, Columbia, SC, and Pediatric Surgeons, Greenville Hospital System.

Mrs. Claffy was affectionately known to family and friends as "Bitsi". She was an active member of Lee Road United Methodist Church, Taylors, SC for 46 years and faithfully served in several positions, member of D.W. Smith Fellowship Class, United Methodist Women, and in special projects and Nancy Howard Circle.

Bitsi was the widow of Leonard Riebling Claffy and also by her parents, Doris Smith and V.O. "Tom" Hendley; brothers, William David Hendley and Thomas Albert Hendley; and a nephew, Thomas Randolph Hendley who shared the Claffy's home for several years.

Survivors are her beloved daughter, Laura Elizabeth Claffy, Taylors, SC; her sisters, Laura Hendley Catto, Moore, SC, and Anne Hendley Foster, Spartanburg, SC; plus eighteen much-loved nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends. All will miss her very much.

A memorial service is planned for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Lee Road United Methodist Church, 1377 East Lee Road, Taylors, SC 29687. Visitation in the church parlor will begin at 1:45 p.m.

Honorary escort will be the D.W. Smith Fellowship Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lee Road United Methodist Church, 1377 East Lee Road, Taylors, SC 29687.
