Madeline Laverne Kough Samuel
Madeline Laverne Kough Samuel, 88, of Greer, S.C., died April 23, 2014 at her residence.
Born in Granite City, Illinois, and raised in Hickman County Kentucky, Madeline was the daughter of the late Robert S. and Thelma Stone Kough. She was a graduate of Columbus High School in Columbus, Kentucky and received training in accounting from Draughon Business School in Nashville, Tennessee. Following her marriage, Madeline lived in Milan, Tennessee and Burlington Iowa and worked as a civilian secretary in U.S. Army ammunition facilities. Following the birth of her children, Madeline dedicated herself to their upbringing and became a homemaker. In 1974, Madeline and her husband moved to Greenville, SC where they have resided since. Madeline attended Heritage Bible Church and the longtime administrator of Precept Bible Study at Southside Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 70 years, Ben Samuel of Greer, S.C.; one son, Maurice L. Samuel of Burlington, IA; one brother, Robert Kough of Seattle, WA; five grandsons, Forrest Johnston, Ben Samuel, Joseph Samuel, Jeremy Samuel and Michael Samuel and six great-grandchildren, Noah Samuel, Tyler Samuel, Allison Samuel, Alexis Samuel, Karis Johnston and Forrest Alexander Johnston.
Mrs. Samuel was predeceased by one daughter, Barbara S. Kamb.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Heritage Bible Church conducted by Rev. Dan Brooks. Burial will follow in Graceland East Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. Monday at Heritage Bible Church.
