Michael Damon Burnette


Michael Damon Burnette died April 24, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born November 17, 1939, he was the son of the late Grady Lee and Anita Thornton Burnette. Mike was a proud graduate of Parker High School '58 and attended Clemson and Furman Universities. He retired from Fluor Daniel in 1997 after 30 years. He was a founding member of a musical group, The Confederates, which started at Parker, and also a band, Sound Advice. Playing at countless reunions, weddings, and country club dances and parties, he brought joy to many through his love of music. Mike was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia of 48 years. Children, Lauren B. Inabnit and husband John, of Clarendon Hills, IL, and Scott Burnette and wife Nicole, of Charlotte, NC. Grandchildren Jack and Lane Inabnit, and Wyatt and Wren Burnette. Brother Randolph L. Burnette and wife Sandra, nephews Keith Burnette and his family, and Jeff Burnette, his wife Ana and their family, all of Atlanta, GA. He also has a special cousin Ronn Burnette and wife Susan of Spartanburg, SC. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 27, at Francis Asbury, 1800 E. North St, at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Francis Asbury UMC, 1800 E. North St, Greenville, SC 29607. And, as they always ended their dances and parties: "Goodnight, Sweetheart, well it's time to go." We will always love you!
