Evlyn Sandel Boyd, 95, widow of Marion Dove Boyd passed away May 6, 2014.

Born in Fountain Inn, SC she was the daughter of the late Elvin Shuford and Lula Woods Sandel. Preceding her in death are her sister Virginia Sandel Mood (Ashleigh), her brother Elvin Shuford Sandel, Jr. "Bill", her son-in-law Harold James Hodges "Hank". Also preceding her in death were her brothers-in-law Albert Boyd (Helen), David S. Boyd (Annie Lucille), and J. Haynsworth Boyd (Frances).

Surviving are her daughter Linda Boyd Hodges ("Hank", deceased), of Murrells Inlet, SC; brother, Jack A. Sandel (Pat), and various cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church where she was active in the Morgan Wesley Sunday School, serving as Secretary and was a member of United Methodist Women. She loved flower gardening and horticulture and she won many trophies for the beautiful flowers in her yard. Evlyn was an avid bridge player and belonged to Crescent Garden Club, Greenville Women's Club and Community Club and Senior Action. She was an excellent seamstress who made most of her clothes. She was in charge of a cannery during World War II. She loved collecting angels.

Evlyn graduated from Greenville High School and received her BS(1940) and MA(1941) from Furman University. She taught home economics before her daughter was born and substitute taught after that in Chicago.

Evlyn married Marion on August 2, 1943 at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. They shared 53 years of happiness before his death in 1996.

People describe her as a Southern Lady with a great sense of humor and she was a true inspiration to her family and friends. Her strong Christian faith sustained her through the years.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 3:00pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Grover Putnam officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 7:00 - 8:30pm at The Mackey Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, 200 W. Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601; or International Order of the Amaranth, payable to Grand Court of South Carolina note Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, c/o Pam Mosier, 172 Old Sandy Run, Gaston, SC 29053, or to Shriners Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
