Lois Bates Jewell

Berea

Lois Bates Jewell, 94, formerly of Berea, widow of William Arthur Jewell, died on Thursday, May 22, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Franklin and Fannie Wynn Bates.

Mrs. Jewell was a member of Berea First Baptist Church and The Fidelis Sunday School Class. She retired after 33 years from Myers Arnold. Lois was affectionately known as "Granny" by those who loved her and were blessed by her.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Tanner and husband, Bob; three grandchildren, Denise Tanner LaBeck (Kevin), Melissa Tanner Horn (William), and Heather Leigh Jewell; and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Jewell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband of 57 years, she was preceded in death by a son, James William Jewell; three sisters; and a brother.

The visitation will be held Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 12:15 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Reaching Center at Berea First Baptist Church, 529 Farrs Bridge R., Greenville, SC 29611.

The family will be at the daughter's residence.
