William "Bill" Looper Jr.


William "Bill" Ernest Looper Jr., 89, husband to Catherine Boone Looper for 67 years, went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 7, 2014.

Mr. Looper was born December 5, 1924 in Batesburg, SC to the late William Ernest Looper Sr. and Addie Traynham Looper. He attended Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. He retired from Akzo Nobel, formerly International Salt Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, World War II, serving in Normandy, France, Germany and Belgium. His unit received the Presidential Citation, for Air Support for General George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge. He also participated in the D Day Invasion. Mr. Looper was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He served in the Provost Guard with the Shriner's Hospital and Senior Golf. He worked extensively with the Boy Scouts, Troop 117, serving as Scoutmaster. He saw both of his son's receive their Eagle Scout Badge.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Bruce Looper with wife Patsy, and Ron Looper; a sister, Pat Chabra with husband Joe; a granddaughter, Ginny Counterman with husband Jamie; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and William.

Private graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Rusty Benson. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
