Alene Campbell

Gray Court

Alene Sarah Player Campbell, wife of Albert Wayne Campbell for 47 years, joined her Lord and Savior in heaven on July 18, 2014. She has endured many years of declining health, but she has always been more concerned about others than herself. Her husband, along with their daughter, Teresa Dawn Campbell, faithfully gave her the very best of care. She was born in Hope Mills, NC, in 1948 to Daniel Allen and Pearl Elizabeth Duckworth Player. She grew up in Enoree, SC, where she became a member of First Baptist Church. She joined Dials United Methodist Church after her marriage and established a home in Gray Court, SC. Alene was very active in her church and even her blindness did not stop her. She helped with the prayer chain and coordinating meals for the bereaved church families. She also helped start the Daughter's Brunch at the church, which was held on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend each year. For 19 years she had a home daycare and was known as "Miss Alene" to many children. She made many friends while working as a teller at First Union Bank in Laurens. Girl Scouts was also a special interest for her, having been a member, a troop leader, and a cookie chairman for many years. Alene also enjoyed cake decorating before she lost her sight. This was a passion she shared with her Aunt Mil. She leaves behind a godson, Chris Casey of Hendersonville, NC; an adopted by-love daughter, Crystal Roberts of Clinton, SC; and a sister, Becky Player Copeland and her husband Wayne of Clinton, SC; as well as her Campbell family brothers and sisters. Her many nieces and nephews had a very special place in her heart. The many prayers, visits, cards, food, and every act of kindness and love have been a testament to how many lives Alene touched. We are so grateful to the family, friends, and healthcare workers for the love and support during these difficult days. It is a sad day to have lost such a kind-hearted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. The service and burial will be held at Dials United Methodist Church on July 20, 2014 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held before the service from 2:00 to 3:00 PM.
