William J. "Bill" Woods, 89, of 505 Cedar Road, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 at his home.
Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Pearl Tinsley Woods, Mr. Woods retired as a driver with Roadway Express after thirty years of service and was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the US Army and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Woods was a life member of the Taylors Lodge 345 A.F.M.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Ellen Williams Woods of the home; two sons, Roy C. Woods (Deborah) of Travelers Rest and James E. Woods (Theresa) of Marietta; four daughters, Wilma Howell (Jack) of Chesnee, Cindy Woods of Spartanburg, Terry Puleo of Greer and Billie Jo Whitfield of Easley; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Woods was predeceased by two brothers, David F. Woods, Wallace G. Woods and by a sister, Emilou Rich.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Sunday at Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1:30 until 2:15 PM Sunday at the church, prior to the service.
