Billy Darrell Smith, age 83, of 3174 Neely Ferry Road, and husband of Sybil Babb Smith, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014, after a long illness.

He was born July 17, 1931, in Greenville County, SC to the late Robert and Mae Thompson Smith. Billy served in Company D, 8th Battalion, 3rd Brigade in the US Army and retired from Laurens Glass after 33 years. He was a member of Henderson Baptist Church, a volunteer fireman with the Hickory Tavern Fire Department for 25 years, and a member of Hickory Tavern Farmers Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: daughter Nancy Tumblin and husband Dean; son Darrell Smith and wife Gail; daughter Sonja Renwick and husband Mike; son Randy Smith and wife Jan; daughter Linda Gosnell and husband David; son Mark Smith and wife Donna; and sister Shirley Thompson. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Van, Keri, Rose, Chandler Tumblin; Heather, Brady, Weston, Norris; Dayna and Alyssa Renwick; Jake Smith; Hunter and Kambrea Gosnell; Hollie and Sidney Smith; Brian, Paisley, Carson Pelfrey, Hannah Harrison; Michael, Isaac, Landon, Adason Pelfrey and Teylor Faulkner.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers: Donnie, Doug, and Vernon Smith; and sisters: Sybil Taylor and Frances Traynham.

Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at The Kennedy Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Rabun Creek Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery with Firefighter Honors and Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Laurens County, PO Box 178, Clinton, SC 29325 or to Hickory Tavern Fire Department, Fireman's Fund, 73 Hickory Heights Drive, Gray Court, SC 29645.
