Ada M. Chapman, widow of Riley Hamp Chapman died August 10, 2014 at the age of 100. Born on April 8, 1914 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John and Arminda McFadden. Their family moved to Pickens County in 1928, and she moved to Greenville in 1933 shortly after her marriage to the late Riley Hamp Chapman. She worked for American Spinning Co. for many years then became the co- owner and operator of the Canteen at Southern Franklin Processing Co. She completed her working career as the dietician for Overbrook School of the Greenville County School System, a position she held until her retirement on July 1, 1976. She was a charter member of the Francis Asbury Methodist Church and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her son L. Jerry Chapman and his wife, Frances, of Greenville; two granddaughters, Maria Lynn Stell and her husband Mike Stell of Atlanta, Dr. Dee Ann Ellis and her husband Dr. Mark Ellis of Charlotte, NC; and two great granddaughters, Haley Ellis and Meredith Ellis of Charlotte, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two brothers, John McFadden and Dave McFadden, and four sisters, Ruth Deel, Martha Deel, Eve MCFadden and Pearl Garrett.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home located 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC with the Rev. Dr. Pam Cole and Rev. Roger Gwinn officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends before the service from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, Inc., 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621. The family is at the home of her son, L. Jerry Chapman. www.woodlawn-fh.com
