Anita Anderson Folsom
Anita Anderson Folsom, 95, wife of John Roy Folsom, passed away peacefully and gracefully surrounded by family and caregivers on August 17, 2014. She was born on April 30, 1919 in Ware Shoals, SC to George Holland and Nita Hunter Anderson and lived in Greenville through her teenage years.
She graduated from Furman University, where she met John Roy, the love of her life. They were married on October 18, 1941 and at the time of her death, they were acknowledged to have been married longer than any other South Carolina couple.
She deeply loved her Lord and was a devoted member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church since moving to Columbia in 1961. While she served in several volunteer capacities at the church, her primary interest was working with the Altar Guild. She had previously been a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church in Greenville since her childhood.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Miriam Wood; her son-in-law, Guy M. "Bo" Tate; and her grandson, Cameron Morris Tate.
Always a lady and a person of very strong principles, she was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and passed her values along to all family members.
In addition to John Roy, she is survived by sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Robelot and Jane Martin (Jack); a brother, George H. Anderson, Jr. (Jean); daughters, Anita M. "Tinker" Folsom and Dale F. Tate; sons, John W. Folsom (English) and George A. Folsom (Suzanne); grandchildren, Brian Boney, Lisa Bradham (Neel), Reg Heinitsh, Dale Walker Roberts (Alex), Katie Eaddy (Ryan), Andy Folsom (Lucy), Anderson Folsom, II, and Reilly Folsom, Stewart Tate (Martha) and Elizabeth Foley (Ryan); and great-grandchildren, Alex, McCauley and Tyler Bradham, Alexander and Davies Roberts, Emma and Grier Eaddy, Anderson and Heathley Folsom, Guy and Lauren Tate and DuBose, Cameron and Michael Foley.
The family is grateful for the loving care of her physician, Dr. Leslie Stuck, and her caregivers, Saundra Turner, Suzette Gaddist, Frettia Bouie and Sheila Frye.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. Family members will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the George H. and Nita Anderson Educational Fund at Epworth Children's Home, P.O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250 or Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, 3401 Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29204.
