Mary Anne Wheeler Obituary
Mary Anne Wheeler

Greenville

Mary Anne Wheeler, beloved daughter of the late George Ellis and Annie Mae Lanford Wheeler, and a child of The King, was called to her heavenly home on September 3, 2014.

Born March 16, 1940, in Greenville, SC, she was the last member of her immediate family.

She attended Overbrook-Eastover Elementary School, Greenville Junior High School and Greenville Senior High School, class of 1960.

Mary Anne was a lifelong member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, Greenville, SC. Many members kept in touch with her long after she was unable to attend. Her favorite was Rev. Grover Putnam, who she considered her "Brother". He was constant in his visits and encouragement to her and the family.

Mary Anne lived at Ridgeview Community Care Center, Greer, SC, for 16-1/2 years. There she found a large, extended family that loved her and cared for her in every way. She had a heart full of unconditional love for everyone and especially her friends and caregivers at Ridgeview.

Special thanks to NHC-Mauldin for showing so much love and compassion to Mary Anne and the family during her last days. May the Lord continue to bless them as they bless others.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, George Ellis Wheeler, Jr. and John (Johnny) Evan Wheeler, Sr.

Surviving are her sister-in-law, Sally Swett Wheeler (Johnny's wife) and her children, Anne Wheeler Broyles (David), John Evan Wheeler, Jr. and Sara Lee Wheeler, who shared their lives, love and much laughter with her through the years. Also surviving are great-nieces and nephews, Katie Broyles King, Sara Jane Broyles, Gilbert E. Broyles, Caroline Broyles, Ellis Grace Wheeler and Sadie Caroline Wheeler; a great-great nephew due in October; and many cousins who were both near and far.

Graveside services will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Grover Putnam officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Ridgeview Community Care, 217 Chandler Road, Greer, SC 29651, or the Gideon's International Golden Strip Camp, P.O., Box 1025, Fountain Inn, SC 29644.
