Joseph "Beattie" Balentine, 76, husband of Frankie Rivers Balentine, of 301 Greenview Circle, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late David Wister and Eva Barbare Balentine.
A graduate of Greenville Senior High, Beattie retired from J.B. Lacher's as a master jeweler after 50 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
His hobbies included golf, pool and story telling. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Corporate Deli operated by his daughters.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 58 years, are three daughters, Susan and her husband, Charlie Cavalaris, Julie and her husband, Ken Olson, and Trish Balentine, all of Greenville; a son, Richard and his wife, Barbara Balentine, of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Pettus Lilliott, Christie and Steve Hannon, Ali and Jay Beeson, Neil Carpin, Frank Balentine, Cathrine Balentine, Laci Olson, Kelly and Joaquin Romero; and six great-grandchildren, Hailey Lilliott, Steven, Olivia and Ali Hannon, Will Beeson and Maria Romero. Beattie was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Robert Balentine.

A Vigil Service will be held today, Feb. 17, 2005, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will follow until 8:30 p.m. at the church in Sacred Heart Hall, 338 W. Washington St. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at St. Mary's Catholic Church at noon, with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
