Belton Owings Obituary
Belton Deroy Owings, 82, of 22 Blythewood Drive, widower of Mary Emma Duncan Owings, died Monday, July 5, 2010 at his residence.
Born in Woodruff, he was the son of the late L. Dee and Louise Lowe Owings.
Mr. Owings was the retired President and Owner of Owings Cotton Company. He was a member of Greenville First Assembly of God, where he served as former Deacon, was on the Board of Directors for Southeastern Bible College and was a member of The American Legion. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the 82nd Airborne during World War II.
Surviving are daughter, Patty Owings Mitchell and husband, Allen, and their children, Denise, Stephanie and Craig Mitchell; daughter, Deborah Owings and children, Terry and Tommy Owings; son, Park Owings and children, Neely and Sylvia Owings; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Osteen and Roberta Davis; and two brothers, Thomas Earl Owings and Larry Owings. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Satterfield.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the downtown chapel. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will be at their respective homes.
