Obituary Condolences

Charles Horace Loftis of Blakely Ave. passed away November 26, 2010 after having lived 98 blessed years in his birth community of Reedy Fork in Greenville County. He will be placed to rest beside his beloved wife of 51 years, Hazel Eison Loftis. He was also predeceased by his parents David Eugene and Minnie Lee Lancaster Loftis, a sister Geneva Loftis Chambers and a brother Chester Wyatt Loftis.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna and her husband, Larry Pursley of the home and one grandson, Ransom Lee Pursley and his wife Blanca of Acworth, Georgia as well as a great-grandson, Jeanpaul. Mr. Loftis has one surviving sister, Jessie L. Bagwell of Piedmont and two nieces, Frances Young of Greenwood and Laura King of Belton and one nephew, Wyatt Loftis of Greenwood and their families.
Mr. Loftis was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church where he was a charter member of the Faith Alive Sunday School Class. He had been an active member of the Augusta Road Ruitan Club until recent years due to declining health.
As a young man he worked several years in textiles in Pacolet, SC before returning to the family farm. He spent many cherished hours farming the area fields as well as a mechanic on farm equipment. He retired after many years in Law Enforcement for Greenville County.
Dr. Robert Whaley, Pastor of Reedy Fork Baptist Church will officiate over services to celebrate the life of Mr. Loftis on Monday, November 29th at Reedy Fork Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with visitation before the service in the sanctuary beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Members of the Faith Alive Sunday School Class and the Augusta Road Ruitan are asked to serve as honorary escorts with the following neighbors as pallbearers: Billy Woods, Charles Hendrickson, Bruce Holcombe, Billy Holcombe, Jimmy Garrison, Jeff Garrison, Randy Landreth, Gerald Scott and Ervin Alverson.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to special friends and neighbors, Johnnye and Billy Woods. They would like to also thank Tom Landreth and Shane Gibson for their help during Mr. Loftis' declining health. In recent weeks Solaris Hospice and Greenville Living Center have been a tremendous help.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Reedy Fork Baptist Church, 459 Reedy Fork Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.
