Dana Willard Bates, 42, of New Orleans, LA, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Wallace Willard and Betty Woods Bates of Laurens. He was employed in the masonry industry and after Hurricane Katrina moved to New Orleans to help rebuild the city.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three children, Harleigh Bates, Austin Bates, and Tyler Bates all of Simpsonville; two brothers, Mark Bates and wife Frances, and Derek Bates all of Laurens; and one sister, Charlotte Bates of Laurens.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Jim Warren, Sr.
The family will be at the home of his brother, Mark Bates, 767 Brick House Road and will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 499 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Laurens, SC 29360.
