Joseph Raymond "Ray" Mixon, 79, of Dillard, Georgia, passed away at Mountain Lakes Medical Center Friday, January 18, 2013.
He was born in Greenville, SC on September 2, 1933 and was the son of Alex and Elizabeth Pitts Mixon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Mixon. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Alford Mixon; a son, Michael Mixon and his wife Carol Ann of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, Betty Thomas of Westminster, SC; and two grandchildren who were the light of his life, Catherine Ann Mixon and Laura Eleanor Mixon.
Mr. Mixon was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from the State of South Carolina having worked for Greenville Tech for 33 years where he was assistant to the president and was Director of Planning and Grants. He was an avid Clemson fan, loved playing golf and enjoyed being with others. He and his wife traveled across the country three times in their motor home.
The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 1 PM to 2 PM. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 2 PM in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop John Erbelding officiating.
