Thomas Maddox Keith, Jr., husband of Janet Staton Keith, died early Monday, January 20, 2013.
Born June 21, 1952, in Greenville, he was the son of Rosa Anderson Keith and the late Thomas Maddox Keith, Sr.,
He attended J.L. Mann High School and was a member of the 1970 State Championship Basketball and Tennis teams.
Tom attended The Citadel before transferring to Clemson University where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He later discovered a passion for nature and design and attended the University of Georgia to obtain a degree in Landscape Architecture. He joined the firm of Gibbes Landscaping in Atlanta and during his time there, met and married Janet, the love of his life.
Tom returned to Greenville in 1987 and joined Arbor Engineering where eventually he became the president and a partner. His legacy is reflected in his work throughout the Greenville area: Falls of the Reedy Park, Hollingsworth Legacy Park at Verdae, Travelers Rest Cityscape, Kroc Center and Kroc Center tennis complex, Greer City Park and City of Mauldin Cultural Center.
He was a member of and past Deacon of Fourth Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed many years as a coach of the girls' and boys' basketball teams.
Tom filled the hearts of those around him with a deep love and passion that will be remembered and cherished forever.
In addition to his wife, Janet, Tom is survived by his children, Thomas Maddox Keith III "T.K.", Mary Katherine Keith "Katie" and James Alan Keith; his sisters, Rosa Keith Champney (David), Mason Keith Williams (Bruce) and Elise Keith Heape (Steve); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
