Henry Sammons, 88, widower of Mary Frances Connor Sammons, of 414 CCC Camp Road, went home to be with the Lord, January 28, 2013 at his home.
A native of Greenville County, he was a son of the late Austin Lee and
Carrie Mae Jones Sammons, served with the Greer City Police force for 15 years, was a Greenville County Deputy, retired from SC DOT in 1991, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Bailey Masonic Lodge #146, a Shriner, and a US Army Veteran of WWII.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Beatrice and Willis Whitman of Greer; three grandchildren, Lamar Whitman (Brandy), Cindy Burrell (Anthony), and Katina Henson (David), five great-grandchildren, Timothy
Burrell (Kristen), Kellie Cox, Zeke Whitman, Kandace Henson, and Kourtney Henson, one great-great-grandchild, Ezri Burrell and a special niece, Anne M. Owens of Spartanburg.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Frank, Jesse, W.J., Sherman and Jacob Sammons; five sisters, Lula Wallace, Leeona Wallace, Josephine Browning, Dorothy Sammons, and Malinda Sammons; and one great-grandchild, Mark Burrell.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at The Wood Mortuary chapel, conducted by Rev. Keith Hannon. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Honorary escort will be the Bailey Masonic Lodge members.
Visitation will be held 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
