J. William "Bill" Davis, widower of Betty Teague Davis, died on 24th July 2013 in Greenville, SC.
Born on 15th April 1921 in Clemson, SC, where his father was the pastor of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, he was the son of W. Emmett and Catherine Moore Davis. He graduated from Columbia High and the University of South Carolina and was awarded an MBA degree by Columbia University. He was a certified public accountant and retired from Ernst & Young.
During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator on bombers and troop transports in both the Pacific and European theaters. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in an air battle with enemy fighters and retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel.
He was devoted to his many hobbies and interests and enjoyed his work with United Way. Late in life he became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his son, Dr. James W. Davis, Jr. and daughter-in-law Dr. Susan S. Davis; his daughter, Melinda D. LaFoy and son-in-law James L. LaFoy, Jr.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Louise Davis McLemore.
The family would like to thank special friends, Edna Freese and Amy Burns Owens, as well as the many kind, dedicated caregivers who contributed so much to help Bill enjoy his last years, months and days.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Westminster Presbyterian Columbarium and Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, 30th July 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Cascades Verdae, 10 Fountainview Terrace, Greenville, SC.
