William Henry Richardson, Jr., 79, husband of Elizabeth Lipscomb Richardson of 56 years, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013.
A Greenville native, Mr. Richardson was the son of the late William Henry and Kathryn Gillespie Richardson.
Mr. Richardson was the third generation owner of Palmetto Loom and Reed Co., a textile manufacturing company celebrating 100 years within the family.
He attended Sewanee Academy and was a 1952 graduate of Greenville High School. Mr. Richardson played freshman football and was in the ROTC while earning a bachelor degree in textile engineering from Clemson University in 1957.
Mr. Richardson served 19 years on the South Carolina National and Wachovia Bank boards. He was president of The Cotillion Club, Greenville Gun Club, and the Sugar Mountain Homeowner's Association in North Carolina. He was involved in the Greenville Downtown Rotary Club for 15 years and he became a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Richardson coached Little League football at the YMCA.
He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal where he served in such roles as vestry member, usher, and Sunday school teacher.
He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and farming.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Kathryn Richardson Allen, Elizabeth Lipscomb Richardson, and Gladys Lipscomb Richardson; six grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Allen, William Edgeworth Beattie, Elizabeth Richardson Beattie, Benjamin Campbell Usry, Sarah Elizabeth Usry, and Eleanor Louise Usry; three sisters, Eleanor Richardson Bishop, Kathryn Richardson Farnsworth and Patricia Richardson Ennis; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, William Henry Richardson III.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 26, 2013, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Christ Church Episcopal at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Springwood Cemetery.
