CARROLL E. GILLESPIE
Carroll Edwin Gillespie, 81, husband of Lucille Howell Gillespie, went home to the Lord on Friday, October 4, 2013.
He was a loving husband and a great father and grandfather. Carroll was known for his amazing carving and woodworking skills. Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Homer L. and Mary Jones Gillespie. He was a member of Travelers Rest United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy. Carroll retired from Furman University after 29 years in the facilities services department, where he was comically known as "Snake" by his co-workers.
Surviving, along with his wife, are 4 sons, Joey (Tedi), Jim (Rhonda), Jonathon (Debbie), and Jeffrey (Molly) Gillespie; 3 grandchildren, Garrett, Weston, and Anna Gillespie; and a brother, H. Neil (Emily) Gillespie.
Along with his parents, Carroll was predeceased by 3 brothers, Harmon, Ray and Gene Gillespie and a sister, Thelma Pickens.
A memorial service at Charles E. Daniel Chapel, Furman University, will be announced at a later date.
