Bert Lee Buchanan


Bert Lee Buchanan, 87, died peacefully, on November 15, 2013. Born in Iowa, he was the son of Vera Blaisdale and Alex Buchanan. He graduated from Iowa State University. Bert served in the Army 305th Infantry Regiment of the 77th Infantry Division in Okinawa, Japan during World War II.

Bert lost his loving wife of sixty years, Elizabeth Buchanan, earlier this year. His immediate family includes two daughters, Jana Payne and her husband , Bill and Bebe Inabinet and her husband, Rhett, both of Greenville. Four grandchildren were the light of his life. Michael Inabinet, Chase Inabinet, Emily Payne and Magy Payne, all of Greenville.

He also leaves behind a loving sister and brother, Marjorie Miller of Virginia and Alex Buchanan of Charlotte, a brother-in-law, Charles Burn of Fort Mill and many nieces and nephews throughout the country. He was predeceased by three sisters and a brother whom was killed in France during the World War.

His local family included devoted nieces and nephews Jane McCutcheon, Jay McCutcheon, Betsy Talbert, and Phil Dorn. Bert had a career at Flour Daniel and after retirement, helped Elizabeth run Carolina Market Research. In the last ten years, he was a devoted volunteer for Loaves and Fishes Food Rescue organization, picking up and delivering boxes of food in his red pick-up truck.

Bert was a loving and loyal Southern gentleman whom will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friends and family.

A service to celebrate Bert's life will be held at 3:00, Sunday, November 24th at Earle Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 2:00.
