Joyce Blair Burgess
Greenville, SC
After a brave, hard fought battle against cancer, Joyce Blair Burgess, wife of Cecil Gary Burgess for 52 years went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at her home.
Born on January 8, 1946 in the Mills Mill section of Greenville, she was the daughter of Emily Bishop Blair and the late William Oliver Blair.
Until her retirement, she was employed by Furman University for 34 years.
She was a member of Berea First Baptist Church. For many years she worked with the GA's and WMU's at Parisview and Sans Souci Baptist Churches. She was a faithful servant of the Lord. She helped with the delivery of Meals on Wheels for five years.
She was a 1964 graduate of Parker High School which she proudly supported. She graduated with high honors as a member of the Beta Club and a member of the Band for four years.
Along with her husband and mother, she is survived by sons Gary Burgess and wife Kristen of Reidville, SC; Darren Burgess and wife Dana of Charlotte, NC; and daughter Erin Oliver and husband Chris of Simpsonville, SC; granddaughters, Cayce and Carey Burgess and Ellison Oliver; grandsons, Nathan and Jeremy Burgess and Aiden Oliver. She is also survived by her brother George Randall Blair and his wife Janet.
Along with her "gang" of special friends, she also had several friends that she considered to be her "children", Elizabeth Bishop Weiss of Washington, DC; Ken, Jill, Jake, Drew and Arie Longshore of Pomaria, SC.
She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, traveling and shopping buddies too many to note, but not forgotten.
Visitation will be held Friday evening at The Howze Mortuary from 7 to 8:30 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in The Howze Mortuary Chapel. Entombment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park.
The family will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605.

Cecil, I was so sorry to hear about Joyce. She was a wonderful woman that always had a smile on her face. I have such fond memories of the years she worked with momma. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God wrap his arms around you and give ou peace and comfort.
