May Gods hands touch you and your family. As a recovering addict, people who have never been through it doesn't know. I have fought this demon for over 10 years, I now have custody of my two grandchildren and life is good. I pray that this story touches others still struggling. Life is so beautiful.

Thank you for your honesty. This is so powerful and hopefully it will be shared over and over again. If we can help one person from starting or dying from heroin, your words will be worth everything . So many hide the addiction in death of our loved ones. You have brought light in the death of your beautiful daughter. May she fly high and rest in peace.

I was very touched a moved by your biography. It makes me so sad for you all that you have lost her. As a parent, I can't even imagine the pain of your loss. As a nurse, I can imagine and see it every day I work. I do see that drug addicts are people and often people who had good lives prior to the mistake of trying something new. I understand the lure of the promise that drugs make to make everything wrong, right again. It breaks my heart that drugs destroy good people's lives by tempting them in to making the wrong choice at a time when life is not going their way. You are not alone. My heart goes out to you all.
I read her obituary to my teenage son as well. I felt so moved by her story that I had to read it to him. He's a good kid now, but I know they all start out that way and one day, life gets hard and someone offers them what seems like a good way to deal with the harsh realities of life, and from that moment on their lives are changed forever. Her story started yet another discussion on how drugs and take so much from you and it all starts with one wrong decision.
I just wanted to tell you that you said so well the struggle and tragedy that drugs brings in to someone's life. I could think for hours and could not have said it better myself. I admire your courage to let the world know her struggle and not gloss over it like so many do. You have found a way to educate people and remind them that addicts are still people and that they are usually loved and missed.
I cannot express enough my condolences and my gratitude for you sharing the story of her life with us all. May God bless you with peace in your heart and the knowledge that you sharing her story has helped others to see addicts as people worthy of our time and respect, and maybe help save others from experiencing such a terrible loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know what it's like to lose a child to this horrible disease because I was in your shoes when I lost my son a little over a year ago. May God give you strength.

As so many people have expressed, I, too, was so touched by Reghan's obituary. I did not know Reghan or any of her family and I usually do not read obituaries anyway. Somehow my eye fell upon it and was struck because Reghan was a beautiful girl and reminded me a bit of my granddaughter. Then I was shocked to see that Reghan was born the exact date and year as my granddaughter. My granddaughter also has had her struggles with substance abuse, including heroin. I appreciate so much that Reghan's mother shared her story.

My prayers go out to you. I've personally had to deal with addiction and have had to bury more friends than anyone ever should, especially at my age(29)
The part "she took it to make her feel like evrything is going to be accepted and everything will be okay" is so 100% true. Most tragic of all is that Opiates tend to attract sensitive, caring, tortured human beings that feel inadequate, it tricks them that everything will be fine but sooner than later the bait and switch comes and the drug puts them in one of the worst hell imaginable. And by then it's too late, you're trapped and find yourself a slave to substance.
Rest in peace to all of the beautiful souls that have had their lives taken by this horrid addiction and all of the families and lives torn apart by it.

As a grateful recovering addict and alcoholic I'm so glad you were able to share your daughters struggles to help others. You are exactly right people do need educating about this disease. You described addiction so well, meth was the biggest love of my life for 16 years, it is a miracle I'm not dead or in prison today. Thank God I hit my bottom and was able to ask for help. I'm so very sorry for your loss and I pray for your healing right now in Jesus name. God bless you.

To Reghan's Mom and Dad
I do not know you therefore I do not judge you or your beautiful daughter; I am a mother and also have a daughter, this real life journey through hell you told oh so well. I'm so sorry for your loss but happy for all you've gained. I'm proud of both of you for being real and stating the truth about Reghans' illness. As I read it aloud I cried for her and you. I too hope your message reaches all of Gods children, young and old. Sending my love to you, her cherished and bold family. You will all hold her again, God opened the door and let her in. I too lost my beautiful Erin 2 years ago. So, I know there's nothing that I can say or do or buy to make this better. I can however tell you that this morning your Reghan woke to feel the warm sun on her new and perfect face then opened her news eyes to Glory, and she is safe and happy. That's all that I know...

Dear Jennifer,
I am so thankful that you wrote so honestly in Reghan's obituary. I know she would be proud of you for sharing her story, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that her personal story has already changed lives. Just reading these messages from all over the United States shows what an impact a tragedy can have on so many people. I am so very sorry I did not get to see or talk with Reghan over the past several years. She was and will always be a special person in my heart and I will cherish those times she and I spent together when she was so much younger. By the way...did she ever tell you that when I first started driving, we were riding around town thinking we were oh so very cool, and I was pulled over for speeding? She said she could keep a secret because she liked to ride around with me. She felt "cool." That makes me laugh when I think about it. Don't worry, mama knew about it and it never happened again!! She grew up to be such a beautiful woman. I am so very proud to see what an impact she is making all the way from Heaven. RIP Rae Rae

I am so, so sorry. I can't imagine. My struggle has been with severe bipolar depression. I know what it has done to my life and my families. I can't imagine being the healthy one and fearing my child, husband, mother was going to die. I can not imagine the ongoing pain of watching my child struggle to fight anything this hard. It starts as a choice but it becomes a disease. These babies are precious to us all. And I am so tired of losing them. I know some win. Some get well and stay well. But no number of success stories lessens the tragedy of the lost. Nothing makes this okay. What do we do? Praying for you from NC

Stumbled upon this obituary by mistake. I was looking for another obituary. Noticed how beautiful Reghan's eyes were, and wondered who this person was that came up on Google's front page when doing a search. God must have meant for me to see her obituary. While I too struggle with addiction, alcohol in my case, I will celebrate 3 years sober this Saturday. I see so many young kids come into my AA meetings desperately seeking help. So sorry for your loss, maybe some young kid will stumble upon this obituary and find the strength they need to stay clean. Reghan may just help someone still. I am sure she would smile about that, because we are taught in our meetings to help people who struggle with addiction. My prayers go out to you.

I like quite a few else who have posted...know your pain. My son has battled addiction for over 17 years. It breaks my heart to see him struggle. It's also been a very lonely world as many people truly don't understand that this is a illness. The media has made it look like it's a choice, but I know my son never grew up want to be an addict. I pray for peace and serenity for you and your family and I know she will never walk alone again because she will be amongst so many children who have lost this fight..

My condolences to you and your family. What a precious tribute you have given to a beautiful young lady. Hopefully someone, somewhere will read this and be saved from the ravages of addition. This is truly heartbreaking....to the Dear Mother, Parents, Siblings and Family of Reghan, I never met your beautiful loved one and I am SO very saddened and heartbroken for you to read about her passing. The eulogy written for her was touching and very moving and you can tell that she was much loved. I would like to thank you for sharing her life story and I commend you for your honesty. Although, Reghan's story is tragic, I pray that just one person who reads this realizes drugs are not the answer to their hurt or troubles and hopefully they decide this is not the path they want to take. Your courage in sharing honestly about Reghan's struggle is beautiful. So many families go through this, and we keep it to ourselves and suffer alone. I myself am a recovering addict, and I'm going to carry her with me and enjoy life more fully in her honor. You may not know, but the surgeon general's report in 2016 was on addiction - that it is a disease and not at all a moral failing. He quoted that "more people suffer from substance use disorder in the United States than from all the types of cancer combined!" But still people judge and blame the addict instead of the disease. Addicts are deeply spiritual and beautiful souls....they feel things to an extreme - all things - and use to deal with the intensity of their emotions. I'm sorry I did not get a chance to know her, but her smile is contagious and precious. I hope that is the image you will have of her when you think of her!
(We are working to open a recovery school in Columbia. 90% of addiction starts in adolescence, and drugs are readily available in schools. A recovery school gives teenagers a safe place to find peers who are also working against the struggle of addiction so that they may be successful in both recovery and in education. If it would help you work through the loss of Reghan, you could share your experience and help us shape the school and ways to help others like her and their families. (HOPEAcademy.online) Know that we will hold her in our hearts as we help others overcome addiction!)
Thank you for being courageous as we work to change the stigma of addiction! My love to you and all those who miss her....
