Richard Merrill Mills of Somers, New York passed away peacefully on April 23, 2014 at 86 years of age.
Born in Greenwich on March 19, 1928 he was the son of the late Harry T. and Edith I. (Miles) Mills. Dick, as he was known to friends and family, is survived by his loving wife Ragnhild (Bjorgan). Having graduated from Greenwich High School, he served proudly in the US Army in the 2nd Armored Division stationed for several years in Germany. Along with his wife Ragnhild, they owned and operated their own landscaping business providing expert horticultural services for many clients in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Always enjoying the Outdoors, Dick spent countless vacations traveling with Ragnhild in their beloved van throughout the United States. He also looked forward to their annual visit with Ragnhild's family in Norway.
Dick was very active in many social clubs including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Sons of Norway. He will be missed by the many friends he made in these organizations.
In addition to his wife Ragnhild, Dick is survived by his sister Gertrude Mills of Greenwich, nieces Gail Latosz of Greenwich, Carolyn Raggi and Barbara Duerr and nephew Gary Pishkur of Greenwich, many grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Harold Mills, William Mills, Clyde Mills, and Ralph Mills and sisters Marian Harraway, Alberta Johnstone, Dorothy Pishkur and Jeanette Whitewaste.
Viewing hours will begin at 10am with the service starting at 11am on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 31 Arch Street, Greenwich CT. Burial will follow at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.leopgallaghergreenwich.com.
