Allan O. Gard, 56, died Sunday morning, November 10th at the home of his sister Nancy and brother in law, Chuck Mansfield, in Gardner, MA following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Allan was born in Greenwich, CT on September 15, 1957, son of the late Carl and Mildred G. (Hagman) Gard. He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1975 and resided in Greenwich most of his life. Allan served in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1982 as an Intelligence Specialist, spending time aboard the USS Nimitz. He enjoyed his travels to Europe and spent one year living in Sweden. Allan attended Boston University and graduated from UCONN Storrs in 1985 with a B.A. in English. Allan's friendly, outgoing nature made him well-suited to work in retail sales, which included management positions at St. Claire's of Greenwich, Godiva Chocolatier and Starbuck's. His interests included attending live concerts, going to the movies and dining out. Allan was a rock and roll historian and an avid collector of music memorabilia. His wife, Mary Lou (Martin) Gard, preceded him in death in 2011. In addition to his sister Nancy, he is survived by his sister, Karin and husband Milo Tsukroff of Pleasant Valley, NY, his Uncle Allan and Aunt Vivien Gard of Guilford, CT, his mother in law, Edith Martin of Lindenhurst, NY and many nephews, nieces, extended family and close friends. Military funeral services will be held Friday, November 15th at 3 P.M. in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gardner VNA Hospice, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440. Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon is directing arrangements.
