Dorothy V. Karrel, 95 of Greenwich died peacefully in her home on March 19, 2014. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Daniel G Karrel with whom she was married for 60 years. She was born in New York City in 1919 , raised in New Haven, Connecticut and was a graduate of the New Rochelle Nursing School. She was a resident of Greenwich for 57 years and an active member of Christ Church. Dorothy was an avid reader, prolific writer of the handwritten personal letter, and enthusiastic follower of sports, devoted to her Ohio State Buckeyes. She was quick to befriend those she met, with her friendly smile, cheerful spirit and self-depreciating humor. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Donna Holden and husband Peter of Duxbury, MA, two sons Douglas Karrel and his wife Ruthie of Adams, MA, Dean Karrel and his wife Debra of River Vale, NJ. She was also the grandmother of nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by a sister Helen Danehy and her husband Joseph of West Haven, Connecticut and sister in law Georgia Buckholz. She was predeceased by her brother Charles. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to one of Dorothy's favorite charities: Meals on Wheels, 89 Maple Ave, Greenwich, 06830, Neighbor to Neighbor 248, East Putnam Ave, Greenwich 06830, or the Harlem Academy, 1330 Fifth Avenue, NY NY 10026 Visitation will be Friday March 21 from 2:00-4:00pm at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT. Services will be at 10:00am on Saturday March 22 in the Chapel at Christ Church, 254 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT.
