Lotte Mehrtens, 100, affectionately known as "Mama" passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13. A devoted mother, loving grandmother, adoring great-grandmother, Lotte was born on March 15, 1912 in Hamburg, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1926 settling in Cos Cob, CT. Lotte's proudest day was when she became an American citizen. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet. Lotte was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Herman Mehrtens and by her daughter-in-law, Karen Mehrtens. She is survived by her children, Margaret(Robert) Kolb, of Stamford, CT , Elizabeth(John) Kjoller of Cape Cod, MA, and Herman Mehrtens of Johnson, VT, 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Sam) Faugno, Robert(Shelly) Kolb, John(Suzanne) , Maria, and Andrew Kjoller, Catherine(Joseph) Mozden, Sally (Jeffery)Drake, Jenny(Michael)Tsappis and Carolyn and Charles Mehrtens, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Smith House for their excellent care.
Family and friends may call at the First Lutheran Church, Field Point Rd, Greenwich, CT. 10 to 11 am. Thursday, January 17. Service will follow at 11am. Burial will be at the Fairfield Memorial Park. Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lotte's name to the First Lutheran Church. Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home of Greenwich is assisting the family with arrangements.
