Romano E. Pompa, 76, passed away with his loving family by his side at New York Presbyterian Hospital on Thursday, April 4, 2013 following a brave fight against MDS and heart disease. A long time resident of Stamford, Romano was born October 13, 1936 in Settefrati, Italy to the late Francesco and Filomena (Capocci) Pompa. Romano immigrated to the United States from Italy in June of 1956, returning in 1964 to marry his beloved wife of 49 years, Vincenza Volante. He came to the United States with "zero" and began his work in the construction trade as a laborer. He attended technical school for drafting and worked tirelessly until he had his own building & general contracting business. His skill and craftsmanship can be seen in many beautiful homes throughout Fairfield County. In addition to his wife, Vincenza, Romano is survived by his children, Filomena Musilli Diurno, and her husband Lorenzo, of Wilton CT, Francesco Pompa, and his wife Limor, of Greenwich, CT and Caterina Caron, her husband Hugh, of Jacksonville, FL, and his six beloved grandchildren: Tina Musilli, Roman Musilli, Claudia Pompa, Daniela Pompa, Sofia Caron and Michael Caron. He is also survived by his three sisters: Angela Socci, and her husband Joseph, of Riverside, CT, Maria Buzzeo, of Clinton, CT and Loretta Buzzeo, and her husband Gino, of New Canaan, CT, and his three brother-in-laws: Mario Volante, and his wife Marina, of Bridgeport, CT, Ferdinando Volante, and his wife Irene, of Italy, and Vincenzo Volante, and his wife Gina, of Italy. In addition to his parents, Romano was preceded in death by his two brothers, Luigi and Antonio, a son-in-law, Tony Musilli, and his brother-in-law, Angelo Buzzeo.
The importance of family was evident throughout Romano's life. He was a surrogate father to his sisters and a very special man to his wife, his children, his grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was an avid hunter and sportsman, and travelled near and far to enjoy his outdoorsman ship, including New York, Montana, Colorado, Arizona and Nebraska and three African Safari adventures. He was a life member of the Fairfield Fish & Game Club, Newtown Fish & Game Club and the NRA. His other passions included his dogs, fishing and gardening, especially his fruit & nut trees.

The family will receive the condolences and sympathy of friends and relatives TODAY, Sunday, April 7th, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue in Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 8th at 10 a.m. at St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, in Stamford, CT. At the family's request, interment will be private.
