Barbara Trotter Fleming, 99, of Kennebunk, died Saturday morning, December 8, 2012 at Bradford on the Common in Kennebunk. She was born at Fort Caswell, NC, a daughter of Col. Alden and Mary (Schwitzer) Trotter. Barbara grew up in San Francisco, where she met her future husband, William David Fleming. They were married on October 20, 1934, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just prior to William's death in 1994. Shortly after marrying, he and Barbara moved to Manhattan Beach, CA, where he began his career with the brokerage firm of Walston & Co. Several job promotions led the the young couple to move to Connecticut, Illinois, and New York. William became President of Walston before finally retiring and moving back to California in 1974. Barbara moved to Edgehill in Stamford, CT in 1999 and Bradford in 2009. Barbara was a member of several Garden Clubs, and was a dedicated hospital volunteer in addition to being a homemaker who was active in the PTA during her sons' school years. She enjoyed painting, and had a great sense of humor and outlook on life. She was a loving wife and mother, and took great pride in the successes of her sons. She was most proud that they, too, have loving and lasting marriages. Barbara is survived by her two sons, Richard D. Fleming and wife Sally of Alton Bay, NH, Gerald S. Fleming and wife Judith of Boston, MA; six grandchildren, Heather Leach of Kennebunk, Stephen Fleming of Guangzhou, China, Kathryn Fleming of New York City, Beth Fleming of Boulder, CO, Julie Brown of Washington, DC, William Fleming of New Haven, CT; and five great grandchildren.
