Carsten Bruun Luckman, 81, longtime resident Longtime Greenwich resident, Carsten Bruun Luckman, 81, died peacefully Sunday, October 7, at Greenwich Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Clemens Anton Luckman from Holland and the late Ingeborg Christiansen of Norway. Mr. Luckman spent his early childhood living in Indonesia and Holland, moving permanently to Norway in 1938. After graduating from the Maritime College in Oslo, Norway, he studied for a year in London at the London School of Foreign Trade graduating in 1954. Upon graduation, Mr. Luckman returned to Oslo to begin his career in shipping as a trainee for RS Platou Shipbrokers. In 1959, Mr. Luckman moved to New York and joined A.L. Burbank as a shipbroker. He moved to Stolt-Nielsen in Greenwich, CT in 1984, where he remained until his retirement in December 1997. He was a member of the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Mr. Luckman moved with his family from Brooklyn Heights to Riverside in 1976 where he continued to live until his passing. One of his favorite activities, which he did regularly, was visiting Tod's point where he enjoyed taking long walks along the beach or just reading and relaxing. In his later years, Mr. Luckman enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. He is survived by his son Morten C. Luckman of Norwalk, his daughter Carina and son-in-law Fabio Calia of New Canaan and two grandchildren; Max and Cecilia. In addition, he is survived by his two brothers Jan Luckman and Hans Bang of Oslo Norway. A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at 11:00 a.m. at The First Congregational Church of Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich. A reception will immediately follow.
