JAMES JOSEPH HAYDE, JR age 84 of Oxford, CT a former lifelong Greenwich resident, died Tues. May 22, 2012 at Greenwich Hospital. Born in Greenwich on Feb. 15, 1928, he was the son of the late James Joseph Hayde Sr. and Elizabeth Fellman Hayde. Mr. Hayde attended Greenwich Schools and graduated from Greenwich High in 1946. Served for many years in the National Guard as a rifleman. He worked for many years at Marr Brothers. He also worked for DeMarkey's Millwork and later went on to be a partner in Greenwich Woodworking on Hamilton Ave. He was a realtor in town and provided private chauffeur service to New York City. An Avid Golfer, he was a longtime member of the Griff Harris Golf Course. Mr. Hayde is survived by his loving wife Gertrude Murphy Hayde of 57 years, his three children, Deborah Ann Nash, Joseph James Hayde, Mary Patricia Gabriel, his eight grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Pop Pop" and "Peaches", Jennifer Elizabeth Nash, Rebecca Ann Nash, Ryan James Nash, Molly Elizabeth Nash, Kelly Elizabeth Hayde, Samantha Marie Gabriel, Veronica Lynn Gabriel, and Rachel Ann Gabriel. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sat. May 26, 2012 at 10:00 A. M. in Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St. Byram, interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave, Greenwich, CT on Thurs.
