Phyllis Camp Andrews, surviving spouse for nearly 25 years of David V. Andrews, died after a brief nursing facility stay on May 6, 2013 from congestive heart failure. Born June 6, 1923 at Fort Ethan Allen, VT, she would have been 90 next month. Except for several weeks this past winter and ten days prior to her death in a nursing facility, she lived since 1990 with a fierce independence at her Greenwich, CT home. The daughter of a military father, she grew up in several states including Vermont, Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. From 1937-39 she lived off-base in a home near to both the beach and Schofield Barracks on the north shore of Oahu, HI, before moving to Pittsfield, MA, where she met her eventual husband at and graduated from Pittsfield High School. Prior to marrying David she attended and graduated at the top of her class from Louisiana State University. She then worked as a dietitian at Chicago's Cook County Hospital. After marrying David upon his return from WWII's Pacific Theater, she lived in a Quonset hut complex close to Yale's campus specifically reserved for married students until David graduated and then they moved to East Orange, N.J. From there Phyllis commuted to work as a dietitian at NYC's Roosevelt Hospital until her first son was born. In the early 1950's they moved to Hastings-on-Hudson where they lived until 1976 and raised three boys. In Hastings, Phyllis was active within the P.T.A. and the Literature Club. Her many charitable efforts included stints as UNICEF coordinator, Fair Housing Committee participation, and much volunteer work for the Andrus Memorial Home. In 1976 David became President and C.E.O. of Stamford, CT's Fidelity Trust Co. and Phyllis moved with him to Stamford. While there she reignited her career, working full-time as a diet technician for the Greenwich Hospital until she retired in 1989 and moved to Greenwich. Once retired, Phyllis would still travel to the Stamford Y until she was 80 years old swimming one mile every day. Phyllis is survived by three loving sons: Edward D. Andrews of the Bronx, N.Y.; Garrett V. Andrews of Woodstock, N.Y.; and Peter M. Andrews of Lisbon, Portugal; as well as two grandchildren she adored, Tomas and Sofia Andrews, also of Lisbon, all of whom ask on Phyllis' behalf that any charitable contributions be directed toward the
