Corelli, Pietro
Pietro "Peter" Corelli, age 74, long-time Stamford resident, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his beloved wife, family and friends, on Sunday, November 4, 2012. He was born June 29, 1938 in San Giorgio, Italy to the late Gaetano and Maria Corelli. Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Lucy (Fedele) Corelli, Stamford's Republican Registrar of Voters, his three sons and daughters-in-law; Anthony and Kim Corelli, John and Noelle Corelli and Patrick and Dana Corelli, all of Stamford, two precious grandsons, Anthony and Adrian Corelli, a sister, Anna Morelli, of Scauri, Italy, and two brothers; Erminio and Nucenzio Corelli, both of Rome, Italy. In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by Antonio Corelli, of San Giorgio, Italy and Alesandro Corelli, of Castle Forte, Italy. Peter was a kind, gentle, loving and a supportive husband to Lucy. She was, and remains, the light and love of his soul. He was not only a father, but mentor and friend. He taught his sons respect and demonstrated by example through hard work, honesty and dedication. He was a second father to those close to him. He was courageous, strong willed and determined to succeed in all he accomplished in life. Peter was a man of very few words, but the words he did chose held great weight and meaning. Helping and being there for others truly came from the goodness of his heart. Peter was at his happiest when he was planting and caring for his garden and trees, and even the gardens at the homes of his children, family and friends. He grew and cared for fig trees, tomato plants, herbs, and many, many string beans for his grandsons. Peter enjoyed taking trips to the beach, traveling, cooking, and the annual family event of jarring the tomatoes and eggplant. As an immigrant from Italy, Peter was a successful owner of Corelli's Pastry Shop for over 35 years. Through dedication and hard work he grew the business into a landmark destination on the Westside of Stamford. Over time, Peter purchased land and built his own shop on Stillwater Avenue, proudly named Corelli's Pastry Shop. He was very proud of this accomplishment. For many years Corelli's Pastry was a landmark in all of Stamford. People came from miles to get a fresh loaf of Italian bread, or some of Peter's famous Italian ice and cannolis. Peter retired from the business in 2004 and was fulfilled by spending time with his family and tending to his gardens. Peter was a devoted husband, brother, brother-in-law, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He truly was loved by all. He was honored to maintain the Italian heritage, and was proud to carry on the traditions and customs from Italy that brought his family together. Our hearts are deeply saddened by his passing, he will be truly missed, and he will live on in each of us. Relatives and friends may call on the family TODAY, Thursday, November 8th, from 4pm to 8pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford.
